My name is Munira Farah, founder of Farah Consulting. To introduce myself, I am a Somali born-woman, raised in Seattle, practicing social work for the last 7 years. I received my Masters in Social Work from the University of Washington in 2015, and have been exploring the field ever since.
In the past, I have worked for a variety of different groups and organizations. In 2011, I began working for Neighborhood House, a nonprofit organization, focused on serving low income communities. After graduating from my Master’s program, I joined the State of Washington Children’s Administrations, working with children and families to help create safe environments for all kids in the system. After growing out my role there, I came onboard to Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, helping women, children and single adults discover the resources they need to ensure their mental health as well as physical well-being going forward.
During my time at all of the various organizations I worked for, time and time again I noticed an unfortunately common theme when working with clients of diverse backgrounds: many experienced social workers are very misinformed about the cultural and religious backgrounds that their clients bring with them. Countless times I would get pulled in from colleagues or directors to help in a specific situation in which the Case Manager had no idea how to handle the cultural and religious needs of their clients. Whether the client was East African, Muslim, or from an unrelated background, it was clear: there was a severe lack of cultural and religious education in the field.
After getting the idea from multiple colleages and directors, I decided to start Farah Consulting in an effort to train and educate the workforce to properly and successfully manage relationships with their broad array of clients. Additionally, we offer to come onboard for specific cases that may be difficult or confusing to handle, and bring our wisdom and diverse background of experiences to your table to ensure healthy, long-lasting, and effective relationships for your clients.
I hope you consider us to help you achieve your goals as an organization. If you have questions about what we offer, please send us an email or give us a call. We would love to chat about future opportunities with you, or at least direct you to the right resources.
